Objectives
The MICIC initiative's overarching goal is to improve the ability of States and other stakeholders to better prepare for, respond to, and protect the lives, dignity, and rights of migrants caught in countries experiencing conflicts and natural disasters.
The initiative aims to identify and examine:
- The issues and the evidence base;
- The roles and responsibilities of States (of origin, transit and destination) and other stakeholders (i.e. employers, other private sector actors, international organizations, and civil society, including migrants and diaspora); and
- The principles, guidelines, and practical measures specific to migrants in countries in crisis.
By mid-2016, the MICIC initiative will produce a framework of voluntary, non-binding Principles, Guidelines, and Effective Practices to address the protection and assistance of migrants caught in countries in crisis.
