Briefing for Permanent Missions and International Organizations

The Governments of the Philippines and the United States of America organized a briefing on the MICIC Initiative for Permanent Missions and International Organizations in Geneva.

The briefing provided an update on the government‐led MICIC Initiative, and the status of the development of the non‐binding, voluntary principles, guidelines and practices to help states and others to better protect and assist migrants caught in countries experiencing conflict or natural disasters.

The panelists reviewed the open and inclusive consultation process with governments, international organizations, civil society and the private sector, as well as the connections between the MICIC Initiative and other key events on migration in 2016, including the UN General Assembly High Level Plenary Meeting on Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants set for 19 September.
