IOM is supporting Egypt’s Ministry of Local Development improve the capacity of general managers in its crisis management departments to include migrant protection in their coordinated crisis response planning. Two trainings were rolled out, reaching 58 participants (7 women and 51 men) representing every governorate in the country. The trainings covered key aspects of effective migrant-inclusive crisis responses, including specific factors of migrants' vulnerability in crisis and heightened risk of trafficking, and how to make emergency preparedness and response more migrant-inclusive, for instance through coordination with existing national structures and institutions.

Building local capacities in this domain is important for Egypt, as the country hosts large numbers of migrants, in addition to being a major country of origin and transit.

The workshop was delivered in collaboration with the National Coordinating Committee for Combatting and Preventing Illegal Migration & Trafficking in Persons under the IOM-PRM Africa Regional Migration Program.
