The regional consultation for countries in East and Southern Africa was the sixth regional consultation organized as part of the MICIC Initiative. This consultation was held in Kigali, Rwanda, on 3 and 4 May 2016. The meeting provided an opportunity for governments to exchange views and identify best practices on how to assist migrants in countries experiencing crises.
The two-day event was hosted by the Government of Rwanda, and co-chaired by the United States and the Philippines. The meeting was organized by ICMPD in collaboration with the United States Department of State and the European Commission, with funding from the EU’s Global Public Goods and Challenges programme.
Civil society organized a consultation in Nairobi, Kenia on 29 April 2016, and presented the results during the governmental consultation. For more information on the civil society consultation, see: http://gcmigration.org/micic/.
