The regional consultation for countries in Latin America and the Caribbean was held on 17 and 18 February in San Jose, Costa Rica. The meeting provided an opportunity for governments and other stakeholders to exchange views and identify best practices on how to better assist and protect migrants in countries experiencing natural disasters or conflicts during the pre-crisis, emergency and post-crisis phases.
The meeting was organized by ICMPD in collaboration with the United States Department of State and the European Commission, with funding from the EU’s Global Public Goods and Challenges programme.
Civil society organized a one-day consultation prior to the official event, and presented the results during the governmental consultation. For more information on the civil society consultation, see: http://gcmigration.org/micic/.
