Including Migrants In Emergency Management in Tanzania
IOM continued to support the government of United Republic of Tanzania to better prepare for and respond to crises with a mobility component. From this end, IOM facilitated the Migrants in Countries in Crisis Initiative (MICIC) roll-out training in Dar es salaam, Tanzania from 21st to 23rd May 2019. The training workshop comprised 18 government officers from Tanzania Immigration Services Department (TISD), Refugees Department, Anti-Trafficking in Persons Secretariat, and Disaster Management Department of the Prime Minister’s Office. The training workshop raised awareness and provided forum for exchange of experiences among government officers of relevant institutions in the country on key matters related to migrants' involvement in crises, and their inclusion in crisis management efforts.
It is expected that the training will increase institution’s capacities to anticipate, better prepare for, and respond to emergencies, as well as the population movements they may trigger. The trained government officers are expected to support the implementation of MICIC-related programmes and activities at the national level, and IOM will further support their efforts in this area.
